Looking for the perfect chilled summer breakfast? Chocolate Berry Acai bowl is a delicious and nutritious way to start the day. Thick and creamy Acai puree blended with berries, sweetened with bananas with a hint of chocolate. Topped with berries granola and nuts.
What is Acai?
Acai is a berry that looks like a grape and has a tropical sweet taste that goes with many different ingredients. Acai fruit grows on the acai palm tree, which is native to Brazilian rainforests. The fruit has a very short shelf life, which is why you won’t find it fresh in stores. Instead, look for acai fruit puree in the freezer section of your local grocery stores. Frozen packets come in sweetened or unsweetened. Acai is also available in a freeze-dried powder or in bottled juice.
Acai Nutrition
Acai berries contain antioxidants, fiber, and heart-healthy fats, B vitamins and K vitamins, as well as other nutrients.
How to Make an Acai Bowl
Making an Acai bowl is so easy. Think of taking your favorite smoothie to the next level. Acai bowls begin with a frozen pack of Acai puree or a spoonful Acai powder, cold nut milk or juice, frozen fruits of choice. Top with granola for crunch, fresh fruit, nuts or seeds, shredded or flaked coconut, or a dollop of yogurt.
- In the bowl of a food processor or a blender add frozen acai packet, cherries, bananas, and cocoa powder
- Pour in almond milk.
- Place the lid on the food processor or blender and pulse a few times then blend until smooth. You may need to scrape the sides of the bowl a few times.
- Process until smooth. The puree should be nice and thick.
- Divide acai berry blend between two bowls.
- Top with Coconut Almond Granola, Chewy Nut Loaded Granola, or granola of your choice.
- Add an assortment of raspberries and strawberries, chopped almonds and cacao nibs for crunch and texture.
- Sprinkle with unsweetened coconut and a drizzle of your favorite local honey.
Make it your own
Let your imagination run wild with your Acai smoothie bowl. Mix up the flavors with ingredients you have on hand or flavors you love. Here are some ideas.
- Fresh orange juice in place of nut milk will brighten up your smoothie bowl or any type of fresh pressed juice. I love beet juice ❤️
- Freeze your own fruit instead of buying package frozen fruit.
- Make a tropical smoothie bowl with mango, pineapple, and bananas.
- Top with natural almond or peanut butter.
- Add a dollop of Greek yogurt.
- Try seed toppings such as hemp seed, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, etc.
