Ginger Turmeric Almond Milk

I have become somewhat addicted to this ginger turmeric almond milk.  This is a sassy drink made with almond milk, coconut cream, fresh ginger juice and a bit turmeric.  I especially love drinking ginger turmeric almond milk cold, but it is wonderful steamed and almond milk froths like a boss!

January is the perfect time to reset my diet.  The holidays are filled with rich and overly sweet treats most of which I should not have eaten…with the exception of Becky’s baklava.  I consider her baklava health food because it’s made with honey, nuts, and a lot of love.   Thank goodness we have a January.  I love a new year with a blank slate.  I restart my health by eating smarter and cleaner.  My running log book is back to zero (sigh) time to start tracking my mileage again.  This list goes on and on.

I thought I’d share a quick little drink that I like to keep on hand for a quick pick-me-up during the day.  It tastes amazing and has great health benefits.

To make this amazing golden milk gather the following:

  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream (scoop off the top of canned coconut milk, the hardened stuff on top)
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh ginger juice, or 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon powder turmeric
  • 2 dates, pitted
  • 1/8 teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
  • fresh ground pepper, if desired

In a blender add the almond milk, coconut cream, ginger, turmeric, dates, and salt.  Whiz until smooth and creamy.  Refrigerate until cold.  Serve with a sprinkle of fresh ground pepper.

Explanation of ingredients:

  • Use almond milk without thickeners and additives (yuck). Homemade is best in my opinion.
  • Why coconut cream?  Fat helps with the absorption of turmeric just like a sprinkle of pepper.
  • Ginger juice is known for its anti-inflammatory properties AND I just love the stuff…straight up!
  • Dates for a bit of sweetness, because I’m addicted to sweet.
  • Adding pepper is a way to boost the absorption of curcumin found in turmeric which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects.  Wow!

Add a double shot of fresh ginger juice and feel the burn…I double dare you.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh ginger juice or 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon powder turmeric
  • 2 dates pitted
  • 1/8 teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
  • fresh ground pepper if desired

Instructions

  1. In a blender add almond milk, coconut cream, ginger, turmeric, dates, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into container and refrigerate until cold
  3. Serve with a sprinkle of fresh ground pepper, if desired

Recipe Notes

  1. I like using homemade almond milk.  If using purchased almond milk, buy a brand that doesn't contain thickeners or gums.  That's no bueno.
  2. Dates can be omitted if almond milk is already sweetened
  3. Adding pepper is a way to boost the absorption of curcumin found in turmeric which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects.  Wow!
