Grilled Pastrami Burger with Spicy Brown Mustard Mayo

Juicy grilled burger patties are topped with thin slices of pastrami, then loaded with your favorite toppings like cheese, fresh veggies, and BBQ sauce. Top it all off with a tangy spicy brown mustard mayo for the ultimate pastrami burger recipe!

Ingredients

Burgers

  • 1 lb ground beef 80% grass fed beef
  • 1 clove garlic sliced very thin
  • 2 tbsp shallot chopped
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce your favorite
  • 1 tbs parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp pepper fresh ground

Spicy Brown Mustard Mayo

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise made with avocado oil
  • 2 tbsp brown spicy mustard

Burger toppings

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • BBQ sauce
  • leafy lettuce
  • tomato sliced
  • red onions pickled or grilled
  • pepperoncini hot deli slices
  • pickles garlic or spicy
  • 1/2 lb pastrami thin sliced

Instructions

Burger

  1. In a medium size mixing bowl, add ground beef, garlic, shallot, BBQ sauce, parsley, salt, and pepper.  Gently mix together using a fork.  Form into 4 patties.  Press a thumb indentation in the middle of each burger.  Place each burger on a hot grill and cook until desired temperature is reached.  Approximately 5 minutes on each side for medium.  

  2. Spread each side of bun with a bit of butter.  Place on grill to toast while burger is cooking.  Remove from grill when lightly browned.

  3. Just before burger is cooked, place pastrami on grill and brown slightly.  Making sure not to dry out the pastrami.

Spicy Brown Mustard Mayo

  1. In a small mixing bowl, stir mayo and mustard together.  Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

To assemble burger

  1. Spread BBQ sauce of bottom bun.  Layer with leafy lettuce, tomato slice, hamburger patty, desired pickles, peppers and onions, top with pastrami . Spread top bun with spicy brown mustard mayo.  Place on top of pastrami . Try to open your mouth wide enough to eat.

Recipe Notes

Homemade burger patties will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep in mind that you should not keep the burgers assembled... Store individual components in separate containers.
